Seasons Greetings!! We are David and Sheri Burns from Long Lane Honey Bee Farms and Honeybeesonline.com. We love introducing and training beekeepers. We have sold so many hives this month as Christmas gifts. Beekeeping makes a great Christmas gift because it is a gift they will enjoy long into the future.

Here's a few gift ideas that will knock their holiday socks off:
Gift Certificates are available from our website. Keep in mind that if you purchase a gift certificate online, it can only be used online. For example, some are purchasing gift certificates so that the receiver can use them to buy packages of bees on January 1. Others are buying gift certificates so their special someone can choose the hive to meet their individual preferences.

Give Them A Class As A Gift

We have a full schedule of 2018 classes coming up. Why not buy a class as a gift. Click here for a full roster of our classes.

The Freedom Kit Makes The Complete Gift
Starting beekeeping with 2 hives is a huge advantage. It allows the beekeeper to swap frames to keep colonies equalized. If one hive becomes queenless and fails to raise a queen, simply transfer a frame of eggs to the queenless hive so they can raise a new queen. Click here for our Freedom Kit with Packages of Bees & Supplies.

Give The Gift Of Mentorship
Another gift idea is to give them the gift of our mentorship program. Beekeepers are sent beekeeping tips and videos produced by certified master beekeeper, David Burns. They are also given David's personal email, and cell phone number to call him with questions. You can purchase a 6 month subscription which will help them prepare for spring and take them through June of 2018. Click here for more information.

We appreciate that you have chosen to do business with a small family business. Our hives are made right here in Illinois. We look forward to helping you in all your beekeeping endeavors.

We will soon close out our winter-bee-kind season, so be sure and order what you need within the next few weeks. Available for either 8 frame or 10 frame hives.

We will only be selling our Winter-Bee-Kinds for a few more weeks. Hurry and purchase what you need before we close our the year. Do not allow your bees to go hungry. It is important to keep your bees well fed so they can produce the heat they need to stay alive.

We are located in central Illinois between Champaign/Urbana and Danville, Illinois.

We are David and Sheri Burns from Long Lane Honey Bee Farms and Honeybeesonline.com.

Happy Thanksgiving and Seasons Greetings from our family to yours!

Today is Shop Small Day across American, an effort to encourage shoppers to support local family businesses. We are open today,
Saturday November 25th! Stop on in and see us today between 10am-4pm central time. Sheri and I do not have other jobs. We give our full attention to helping others become successful beekeepers. This means your business and support is very important to us. We make our living from selling beekeeping supplies. You help us, we help you. We've made some really good friends with our customers because we are a small, family business. Make the drive and come see us today.

Walk in and purchase hives, hive kits and a limited number of Winter-bee-kinds.

We are located between Champaign/Urbana and Danville, Illinois. Take exit 206 from I-74. We are about 5 miles south of that exit. Just ask Google to take you to Long Lane Honey Bee Farms and we'll look forward to seeing you today! We will not be answering phones today.

Winter-Bee-Kinds

To help us get caught up on orders we temporarily took the Winter-Bee-Kinds off line. They should go back online for sale this week. Keep checking!
These things work so great! They are such a big hit. You can replace winter-bee-kind candy boards at any temperature, as long as you can close your hive back up within a minute or two. But NEVER remove frames if the temperature is below 60 degrees (f).
Winter-Bee-Kinds allow for an upper entrance that really helps bees in the winter. Check out this popular winter feeding system by clicking here. We are not sold out yet!

UPCOMING CLASSES
Wouldn't you know it, beekeeping looks easy until you get knee deep into some sort of unexpected issue. Why not get smart and take a class. Check out our classes for 2018! They are filling up fast. Now is the time to sign up. Click here.

New Bee Research Revealed!

We
are David and Sheri Burns from Long Lane Honey Bee Farms and Honeybeesonline.com. Some important discoveries have been made about bee nutrition, effects of pesticides on bee health, what induces hygienic behavior and will the next big mite problem of tropilaelapse be worse than varroa destructor? We will be talking about these things on today's HiveTalk podcast at 1:30 central time, so set your clocks and smart phones now. Join us at 1:30 today for these interesting findings. Jon is out in Denver at Entomology 2017.

The Entomological Society of America (ESA) is the largest organization in the world serving the professional and scientific needs of entomologists and individuals in related disciplines. Founded in 1889, ESA has over 6,000 members affiliated with educational institutions, health agencies, private industry, and government. Members are researchers, teachers, extension service personnel, administrators, marketing representatives, research technicians, consultants, students, pest management professionals, and hobbyists.

HiveTalk's own Jon Zawislak is at the conference and will be joining us at 1:30 by phone to report on the new research on bees. Here's how to listen to the podcast today:  You can make Hive Talk more interesting by calling in and asking questions live, or by logging in on your computer and texting us your question. Here's how:

When Is It Too Cold To Open A Hive?
It's starting to get colder for most of us so stay out of your hives when the
temperatures drop below 60 degrees (f).

2:1 Sugar Water Or 1:1?????
It would be nice not to have to feed bees sugar water. But, the reality is we do. Before it gets really cold and if bees can still fly, rather than cluster, you can still feed liquid sugar water. 2 parts sugar to 1 part water is usually the mixture to feed bees in the fall because they do not have to spend as much time drying down the heavy sugar mixture to turn it into honey for winter stores.
I do not use 2:1 very often. Instead I feed 1:1 in the fall to build up my brood of winter bees. Then I feed  my winter-bee-kind candy boards all winter. If the weather cooperates try and feed liquid as long as you can before it finally turns to cold. Then shift to candy boards!

The Burns Bees Feeding System
Frustrated by the limitations of feeding my colonies in the fall, I invented and created a simple feeding system. It's been enjoyed by beekeepers now for several years. I use it to feed my bees in the fall so they will build up fall brood for winter survival. This feeding system provides screens to keep your bees down while you change out your feeding jars and add pollen patties. Here in Illinois our bees must now eat their own food for 70 days even before winter arrives!  That's over two months. There is nothing for the bees to forage on. Try out our Burns Bees Feeding System and help your bees maintain the nutrition they need this winter. Click Here For More Info

* * * * * FREE CLASS * * * * *
Here is a class for you honey enthusiasts! Join Sheri Burns as she talks about honey -- how bees get it, how they pollinate, what types of flowers do they pollinate? Why is some honey light while other honey is dark? Learn about what's in honey and how it's beneficial to people (do YOU know where those beneficial enzymes come from?).  Watch an extraction demonstration and see how it's stored. Learn how to cook and bake with honey. And did you know there are other medicinal uses for honey?

Fall is only 16 days away, and that's hard to believe. For us fall means beautiful trees changing colors, pumpkin pies and Thanksgiving. But for our honey bees it means an end to incoming nectar and pollen for months.

Experienced beekeepers know how to get hives ready for winter. But if you are new to beekeeping you may be scratching your head about how much to feed, how to rearrange frames, wrapping hives for winter, how to feed in the winter, ventilation and more! It's confusing.

Fall offers several weeks to feed your bees to help your bees prepare for winter. Bees can quickly consume stored resources during the fall and have nothing left for winter. Why not feed your bees now with our Fall Feeding System. Watch the video below and then order your Burns Bees Feeding System now for fall feeding by clicking here.

Whether you feed your bees in the fall it is essential to feed your bees in the winter. We are once again taking orders NOW for our Winter-Bee-Kind feeding boards for winter. Please place your orders now as we will begin shipping sometime in November when the weather is cooler.  Click here to order now.

Basic Beginners Beekeeping Class Oct. 14th.
We Still Have Openings

Beekeeping is not as easy as people say. Maybe you think you can buy some bees, dump them into a hive, watch a few YouTube videos and everything else is magic. Sorry to pop your bubble but if this is you chances are high that your hive may die. Why not arm yourself with knowledge. Knowledge is powerful and knowing more about how to keep bees will give you an edge to have more success and enjoyment from your new hobby.

Our last class for 2017 still has openings!  It will be held Saturday Oct. 14. Sign up now! Learn from beekeeper, David Burns, who is a Certified Master Beekeeper through the Eastern Apicultural Society of North America.

Christmas Is Only 110 Days Away!
Many people started beekeeping because they received a beehive as a Christmas gift. What a surprise! It's the gift that brings enjoyment, education and even honey. Consider beekeeping as the perfect Christmas gift.

When deciding on which kit is best, starting with two hives always gives the beekeeper a better start. You can balance out your two hives by sharing resources between each hive. If one hive needs a frame of pollen, you can share one from the stronger hive.

If one hive loses their queen and fails to raise a new one, you can share a frame of eggs from the strong hive.  This is our popular selling Freedom Kit. Put this kit under the tree as a gift for that special someone in your life. Really surprise them!
